How green is your valley?

HI:
Inaugural post here.
I'm new to this blogging thing, so be gentle...

I wanted to meet others and discuss ideas of environmentally friendly things we can do to reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources. What a mouthful...
In short, ways we can reduce our carbon footprint in our own backyards, basements, work spaces and the like.
I know where I live we have waste diversion in place by the municipality (green bins, blue bins).
I don't want to sound the alarm here, but I can see the effects of climate change in my own backyard.
I manufacture rain barrels for residential use to harvest rain water for gardening and outdoor water uses. (no, you are not supposed to drink it, so put down the glass.)

Anyone who wants to chine in on this subject, please feel free.
Maybe we can effect some change right here.
